Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)
Synopsis & Analytical Review Framework
Reader Critical Response Manifest
I actually read this book first, thinking it was the first HP book. I like the fact that you can pick up pretty much any HP book, and be able to get right into it, without feeling like you're lost. I was hooked on it right away & I've enjoyed every minute reading them.
4.5 stars OH MY GOSH! AMAZING! HOLY! These books just keep getting better and better, damn. Although the beginning was a bit slow, things started to get more interesting as I read through. I was literally unable to put this down. Glideroy Lockhart. Holy, I've never met someone so self-centered but it was hilarious. I'm so excited to get to the next book in the series. I need it in my life ASAP.

Seruuuu... bikin merinding!
The weakest of the HPs. Its as good as the first, but its not as original.
As much as I enjoyed this book the first time through, it was even better to go back and read it after finishing the next four. This one has so much hidden in its pages that plays a significant role later on in the series. It was this book that really started to show Rowling's aptitude as an author.
Aside from the repetition of the first several chapters (which happens again in Book 3), I liked this better this time around. I've always thought of it as the weakest of the books, but this time I felt like it holds its own with the others.
Great mystery aspect to the plot. Rowling is able to create another intriguing mystery and adventure for Harry and the gang to explore. Characters were great. I love the growth of the characters and we get some more background information about major characters such as Hagrid. I also liked the new defense against the dark arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart. He was such a pompous, egocentric ass and a pretty boy in every sense of the word. He was some great comic relief. The Hogwarts setting is superb again and Rowling shows us more of the school and its many layers. Terrific world building on display throughout. The pacing and writing are very well done. Some good quotes present in this one. I liked the darker fantasy elements present in this second installment. A fun, entertaining second book in a series that I am already starting to love.
